Land at New Jalpaiguri and set off on a scenic drive up to Gangtok. Check into your hotel and spend the evening at leisure — Mall Road is right there for an easy first stroll.
An early start takes you into the high mountains to Tsomgo Lake and the revered Baba Mandir shrine. Nathula Pass can be added if BSF permits allow (carry two passport photos and an original ID). Return to Gangtok by evening.
Morning visit to Rumtek Monastery and its nearby viewpoints, followed by a ropeway ride. By noon, head out on the scenic 5-hour drive to Darjeeling and check into your hotel for the night.
Rise before dawn for the famous Tiger Hill sunrise over Kanchenjunga, then stop at Ghoom Monastery and Batasia Loop on the way back. Post-breakfast, explore the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute, Padmaja Naidu Zoological Park, Tenzing Rock, the Tibetan Refugee Self-Help Centre, a tea garden, and the Japanese Peace Pagoda. Evening free for a relaxed walk around Mall Road.
After breakfast, check out and begin the drive back to NJP, with stops at Mirik Lake for boating and the Pashupati Market. Drop-off at NJP railway station for your onward journey.
