Tucked away in India’s far northeast, Nagaland and Manipur are still one of the country’s best-kept travel secrets — misty hills, war history, tribal culture, and a lake that seems to float. This 6-night trip with Dream Safar takes you from the bustling border town of Dimapur to the hill capital of Kohima, and onward to the cultural heart of Imphal, with a stop at the famous Loktak Lake along the way.
Arrive at Dimapur railway station or airport and check in to your hotel. After freshening up, visit the ancient ruins of the Kachari Kingdom, then browse Dimapur's famous market for goods that travel in from Myanmar and China. Overnight in Dimapur.
After breakfast, drive to Kohima and check in to your hotel. Spend the evening at leisure, taking in your first views of Nagaland's hill capital. Overnight in Kohima.
Visit the Kohima War Cemetery, built in memory of the soldiers who gave their lives in the decisive World War II battles fought here — a quiet, powerful place maintained by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission. Later, head to Khonoma Village, about 21 km away, known as Nagaland's first "green village" and the birthplace of the Naga movement. Evening free. Overnight in Kohima.
Drive to Imphal, stopping en route at Naga Heritage Village, the permanent site of the Hornbill Festival, before crossing into Manipur through the Mao border gate. Check in and rest for the evening. Overnight in Imphal.
A day to explore Imphal at your own pace. Overnight in Imphal.
Full-day excursion to Loktak Lake, the largest freshwater lake in northeast India and famous for its floating phumdis (islands of vegetation). Overnight in Imphal.
Check out and transfer to Bir Tikendrajit International Airport, Imphal, for your onward journey.
