Kutch is a land where history, culture and landscape come together in a way you won’t find anywhere else in India. This tour takes you from the wild beauty of the Little Rann to the royal forts of Bhuj, the tribal villages of Banni, and the shimmering white desert of the Great Rann. Along the way you’ll stop at ancient temples, colourful handicraft villages, coastal palaces and shipyards that once built India’s finest wooden ships. Arrive and head straight for adventure. In the afternoon, hop onto an open jeep and go safari-hunting across the salt desert of the Little Rann. Keep your eyes open for Wild Ass, Blue Bull, Blackbuck, Desert Fox and even the occasional Wolf. Overnight stay near the Rann.
Drive to Bhuj and spend the day exploring its royal past. Visit the Aina Mahal and Prag Mahal museums, the Swaminarayan Temple, and the Bhartiya Sanskriti Darshan exhibition, followed by the cenotaphs of the former ruling family. Overnight stay in Bhuj.
Head into the Banni and Pachcham belt to meet the artisan communities of Dhordo, Bhirandiyara, Ludiya and Khavda, known for their embroidery and mud-mirror work. Stop at Kalo Dungar and the Dattatray Temple before heading to White Rann for one of the most spectacular sunsets in India. Overnight stay at Dhordo or Hodka.
Visit the Ashapura Mata Temple at Mata no Madh, then continue to Lakhpat Fort, the Gurudwara and the striking black-stone tomb of saint Ghaus Muhammad. Next stop is Narayan Sarovar, one of Hinduism's sacred lakes, followed by the seaside Koteshwar Shiva Temple. Overnight stay in Nakhatrana.
Drive to the coastal town of Mandvi. Visit Vijay Vilas Palace, once the royal summer retreat, and the 72-temple Jain complex. Stop by an organic farm and the century-old Mandvi shipyard before winding down at a private beach. Overnight stay in Mandvi.
Drive back to Ahmedabad and transfer to the airport or railway station for your onward journey.
